Finding Books by Genre

(Mystery, Western, Adventure, etc.)

Because the library's catalog does not classify children's books by their genre, it is difficult to search by genre type.  The most efficient way to find these titles is to first consult other lists that are categorized by genre, and then search the catalog for specific titles or authors.

Here are some good sources for title lists organized by genre:

Bookhive     http://www.plcmc.org/bookhive/books/

Produced by the Charlotte, North Carolina Public Library, this site has a great selection of titles organized by genre and age, from infant to sixth grade.

New York Public Library Kid's Section: http://kids.nypl.org/reading/index.cfm

Click on "Recommended Reading" for booklists.  Especially good is the list titled "100 Favorite Children's Books", which is organized by genre.

 Teen Reads www.teenreads.com

Loads of information on teen books, including reviews, author interviews, new books, and teen's own recommendations.  Searchable by genre.
